Frequently asked questions

What flowers do new mums appreciate most?

Something that's ready to enjoy with no fuss. A posy in a gift box or flowers already in a vase mean she doesn't need to hunt for a vase or trim stems. The Lily Bunch + Vase (from $79), Pastel Petals Box (from $79) and Thinking of You Bouquet (from $69) are all thoughtful, easy choices.

Is a vase arrangement better than a bouquet for a new mum?

Often, yes. With a newborn, finding a vase and arranging flowers is one more job. Arrangements that come with a vase, like the Celebration Blooms Vase (from $119), can go straight on the table. A wrapped bouquet still works well if there's a partner or family member at home to pop it in water.

What can I write if I can't visit the new baby yet?

Let them know you're thinking of them and there's no rush. Try "Congratulations! We can't wait to meet the newest member of the family, whenever you're ready" or "Sending love and cuddles from afar, take all the time you need". A shared photo printed on the card is a nice touch from family far away.

What if I don't know whether it's a boy or a girl?

Go neutral or let our florists choose. The Neutral Florist Choice Bouquet (from $69) and Bright Florist Choice Bouquet (from $69) suit any new arrival. Once you know, you can also browse baby boy flowers or baby girl flowers.

Is it too late to send flowers a few weeks after the birth?

Not at all. Many new mums get a rush of flowers in the first few days and then very little. A delivery three or four weeks in, when the visitors have stopped and the sleepless nights have kicked in, can mean even more. You can book any future date in the delivery calendar.

Which size should I choose for new baby flowers?

Many bouquets come in size options such as Classic, Deluxe and Super-sized, chosen on the product page. Classic suits a hospital bedside or a small apartment, and it's plenty from a friend or colleague. Deluxe or Super-sized make more of an impression for close family or a group gift where there's room at home to display it.

Thoughtful flowers for a new mum

Make it easy for her

The best new baby flowers are the ones that don't add to a new mum's to-do list. Flowers in a vase or a gift box can sit straight on a bench or bedside without any arranging. The Lily Bunch + Vase (from $79) and Choose Your Colour Posy + Gift Box (from $69) are simple and pretty, and The Congratulations Box (from $69) says exactly what you mean. For a group gift from workmates or family, the Joyful Blushing Vase (from $109) is a generous choice.

Timing tips

Babies don't stick to schedules, and neither do hospital stays. If mum is still in hospital, check that her ward accepts flowers and include her full name and ward. Otherwise, sending to home is usually simpler. Many people now send flowers a week or two after the birth, so they arrive when things are quieter and she has time to enjoy them.
